IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR COMPRESSOR
How to test voltage on your
air compressor (click here)
It has come to our attention that some of our customers have mounted the air compressor for the air clutch system on the back of the planter and wired it to an auxiliary power supply located on the toolbar. This power supply is NOT ADEQUATE to power the compressor.
Here is the problem with the auxiliary power supply: The compressor requires 20 amps at 12 volts. Most standard planters auxiliary power supplies are not wired heavily enough to deliver this voltage and amperage. MOST STANDARD POWER STRIPS WILL DELIVER LESS THAN 10 VOLTS AT 20 AMPS! The result is a sluggish compressor that will have a very short life. Please see page 4 of our installation/owners manual for more details. When wired properly, our compressors will offer more than enough air, quick recovery and years of dependable service.
The solution is to move the compressor to within 20’ of the tractor cab (inside the cab is the very best). Wire the compressor to a 20 amp keyed outlet. NEVER lengthen the supplied wire harness. By lengthening the harness you once again will reduce the voltage to the compressor and cause damage. If you wish, you may shorten the harness by removing a section from the center of the harness and properly re-splicing it. By mounting the compressor closely to the cab you solve 2 problems:
· You eliminate the voltage/amperage problem discussed earlier
· You can shorten the remote filter (snorkel) hose which will also slightly increase the efficiency of the unit.
Remember THE CIRCUIT MUST DELIVER 20 AMPS AT 12 VOLTS MINIMUM! Anything less WILL result in poor compressor performance and greatly reduced life.
